Tate dodges 500 down and backs, eyes NBA dunks bet

TLDR: Ohio's Tate promised 500 down and backs in Indiana's gym if Ohio State lost, the Buckeyes won 19-15, and 20 days into Chalktober he wants an 8+ dunks bet on the NBA opener.

The whole weekend ran on one wager. Tate had put his legs on the line in Bloomington, and Barstool made sure nobody forgot it.

THROW THE BALL AWAY! YOU CANNOT TAKE A FUCKING SACK THERE! YOU DO NOT NEED TO TAKE A SACK THERE!!!!!!!!!

For a while, sprints in the Hoosiers' gym looked like a real possibility. Tate spent Saturday afternoon yelling at his own team. He was mad about a holding call, mad about a sack that should have been a throwaway, and mad that Jeremiah Smith kept coming off the field. At halftime the Buckeyes led 10-7, and Tate's verdict was that they were lucky to be up 3. Indiana came in on a 22-game winning streak, the longest in the country, so this was not a team you could beat by just showing up.

Ohio State won anyway. Julian Sayin found Smith for a 38-yard touchdown on 4th down early in the 4th quarter, and what looked like Indiana's go-ahead score came off the board when Nick Marsh's left foot was ruled out of bounds. The Buckeyes held on 19-15 at Memorial Stadium. It cost them, though: Sayin is expected to miss several weeks with an injured right arm. Barstool had a camera on Tate for the last seconds, with the 19-15 score bug on the TV behind him.

INDIANA HAD THE GAME WINNING TOUCHDOWN BUT HE WAS OUT OF BOUNDS WHAT DID WE JUST WITNESS!? t.co/XwBsODuJrX

Less than an hour later Tate paid off the bet he no longer owed. He ran 2 down and backs, not 500, and he did them in his own hallway with his dog chasing him. Then he moved straight on to the next thing he cared about, which was Cleveland.

Why would I run the 500 down and backs when Ohio State beat Indiana….? Here, I’ll run 2 for you Time to lock in for the Guardians

@OhioTate May have technically been a W, but you should have to do the punishment anyway.

Sunday was packed. Tate called it a huge day: Browns vs. Ravens for 1st place in the AFC North, and Guardians vs. Rays in Game 5 of the ALCS with the series on the line. Before any of that, Chalktober needed its daily win. It came in the ugliest way possible. The Rams had to send their punter out to kick the extra point, he made it, and the studio cam caught the whole sweat.

An hour later he wasn't the greatest gambler alive anymore. Tampa scored a run in each of the first 3 innings, Cleveland got 1 back in the 6th, and Drew Rasmussen and the Rays bullpen held on for a 3-1 win at Progressive Field. That left the Guardians 1 loss from elimination with the series headed to Tampa. The studio cam showed the Cleveland crowd deflated, and Tate had already summed it up.

Tate was still talking big. His plan was to hand Gavin Williams the ball in Tampa and tell him to get Cleveland to Game 7. Chalktober doesn't take a day off for heartbreak, though, and by Tuesday morning he had something else on his mind: the NBA opener, a pumpkin costume, and a prop he admits he can't defend.

I have contracted a disease and that disease is I want to take this 8+ dunks bet for Chalktober so bad 20 days into Chalktober is no time to mess around but it would be such a fun Pumpkin costume stream for the NBA opener If you feel this is a horrible idea (or have a better option) speak now or forever hold your peace

He didn't defend it, either. A few minutes later he called it a horrible bet and said he doesn't know how many dunks happen in an NBA game. The chat's suggestion, which Tate loved, was a dunk tank stream: one plunge for every dunk he needs. He asked whether the dunk tank could be ready before 2pm. So he got out of 500 sprints, but he might still end up soaked.
