JWill steps out of the spotlight for Texas Tech's title run

TLDR: Jason Williams is heading home for Game 1 of the Women's College World Series final, and he wants every camera pointed at the players — not at him.
White Chocolate has spent the last week being the unofficial mayor of Devon Park. His daughter Mia plays for Texas Tech, the Red Raiders just punched their ticket back to the championship round, and JWill has been front-row, hyped out of his mind, becoming a whole storyline of his own. Now he's trying to hit the brakes on that storyline before Game 1.

“People thinking I’m trying to make this about me. It ain’t about me. It’s about these girls. They’re the ones out there playing the game” Jason Williams wants all the focus on Texas Tech, so he’s heading home for the National Championship t.co/bupW2RrPFd
Hard to blame him for trying to redirect the attention. Texas Tech ran through Alabama to get back to the finals, and the dad-cam coverage has been relentless — every walk-off, every big swing has cut to JWill losing his mind in the stands. When your kid is the one in the box, the last thing you want is the broadcast turning your reactions into the main event.

It's also why he went viral in the first place. The clips of him courtside-style locked in, the bit where he got Texas fans throwing up Guns Up, the open invite to Dave Portnoy for Game 1 — it's been a full week of JWill content stacked on top of actual softball content. The man has main-character energy whether he wants it or not.
So heading home for the final is the move. Watch from the couch, let Mia and her teammates own the night, and stop being a 30-second cutaway every half-inning. Whether it actually quiets the JWill discourse is another question — the dad-mode quote is already its own headline — but the intent is the right one. The girls are the ones out there playing the game. He just happens to be the loudest fan they've got.
