Tommy Smokes, Nick Turani headline The Dozen Xtreme's football trivia premiere

TLDR: Barstool's trivia show strapped on pads for its Pro Football Edition premiere, and Tommy Smokes paid for it with his body.

The Dozen has always been Barstool's brains-only trivia franchise, but Tuesday night it got a body slam of a rebrand. The Dozen Xtreme: Pro Football Edition, presented by Jersey Mike's, premiered live with four teams playing for a $15,000 prize, and this time the questions came with an obstacle course attached. It's Round 1: Nick Turani, Jersey Jerry and Ohio's Tate against Tommy Smokes, Rico Bosco and Marty Mush, with the winners moving on toward that check.

Smokes was the breakout star of the night for all the wrong reasons. Barstool's own account posted him getting stuffed on the first physical challenge, and it kept happening — he later reposted his own agility-drill wipeout with the caption "the hits just keep on coming," which is either great sportsmanship or just accepting the bit. Either way, the format works: trivia alone doesn't produce a highlight reel of a grown man diving onto a crash mat.

The brains half of the show delivered its own moment. A trivia round asked contestants to add up the jersey numbers of Kansas City Chiefs return legend Dante Hall and Denver Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay — and Smokes and Marty Mush drew a total blank on Hall, a two-time Pro Bowler nicknamed "The Human Joystick" who set the Chiefs' franchise record with 11 return touchdowns during his run in Kansas City in the 2000s.

Not every team was stumbling. Nick Turani and Jersey Jerry were getting singled out as the show's best combo, with The Dozen Trivia's own account framing their run with football-legend pairings like Brady-Moss and Montana-Rice. The clip backing it up shows a target-throwing and kicking challenge on the Jersey Mike's-branded course, capped by someone sticking a backflip landing next to the goalpost frame.

It's a smart pivot for a franchise that's leaned on a stationary podium format for a while now — putting Barstool talent through a Jersey Mike's-sponsored combine gives the show a second gear when the questions dry up, and the $15,000 prize gives Round 1 actual stakes beyond bragging rights. Whether the physical stuff sticks around for future editions probably depends on how many more times Smokes is willing to get "clipped" for content, but on premiere night, he clearly was.
