First pitch went at 7:05 PM CT with Noah Schultz (3-6, 6.04 ERA) on the mound for Chicago against Kumar Rocker (2-8, 4.13 ERA) for Texas, and by the final out only one of those two had anything to celebrate. Schultz had looked sharp his last time out, working 5 innings of 1-run ball against Oakland. Rocker was coming off the opposite — 5.2 innings, 7 earned runs against Houston — making this a get-right spot he badly needed.

White Sox got shut out 10-0 as Rocker and the Rangers offense flipped the script completely.

Pregame

We backed the White Sox moneyline in this one, getting them at a plus price before the market tightened toward even, which read like confirmation from a team that had just demolished this same Rangers pitching staff a night earlier. Schultz coming off a clean outing added to the case. It just didn't play out — Texas answered with the exact kind of complete-game effort Chicago had delivered the night before.

Texas was already banged up walking in, without Corey Seager and both catchers Kyle Higashioka and Danny Jansen, and it got worse in the middle of this one when Josh Jung had to leave the game with an apparent injury. Chicago wasn't spotless either — Colson Montgomery got scratched with a shin issue and catcher Kyle Teel landed on the 10-day IL with an ankle sprain the same day. None of that mattered once the Rangers' bats got rolling, and the market had already sensed something coming, with the price on Texas tightening notably in the hours before first pitch.

Whatever Chicago found in Monday's 10-3 rout evaporated overnight. The White Sox managed all of 3 hits and never got on the board, while Texas strung together enough contact to make it 2-0 in the 1st and never let up from there.

The Rangers didn't just win, they buried it — 4 runs in the 5th put it out of reach, and by the time the 6th inning run went up it was academic. Rocker got the bounce-back start his ERA needed, and a lineup that had scored one run over its previous 15 innings against this same pitching staff suddenly couldn't miss.

It's a reminder of how streaky this series has been — two blowouts in two nights, with the roles completely reversed. Chicago still sits well above .500 at 53-46 and shouldn't be shaken by one bad night against a Texas team that's still fighting to get over the .500 line itself.

The White Sox will need Schultz sharp again next time out to erase the memory of this one, while the Rangers will be watching Jung's status closely after he exited mid-game. For one night, though, Texas got exactly the response it needed at home.
