The 2026 White Sox were not supposed to be 24-22 in mid-May, and yet here we are. Chicago has won 4 of its last 5 and is rolling into the Pacific Northwest as a road dog with a real pulse. The Mariners, meanwhile, are 22-26 and trying to stop a 3-game skid before the bottom falls out.

This is also a battered Seattle lineup. Cal Raleigh is shut down for a week with an oblique, Brendan Donovan is on the 10-day, and J.P. Crawford is day-to-day with a triceps contusion he picked up in Sunday's 8-3 loss to San Diego. That's the catcher, the third baseman, and the shortstop in one sentence. Robles is still rehabbing in Tacoma. The White Sox aren't exactly whole either — Austin Hays is starting a rehab assignment and Kyle Teel tweaked his knee in a minor-league game — but the names crossed off in Seattle hurt more.

The pitching matchup is where it gets fun. Noah Schultz is the 2026 rookie everyone in Chicago has been waiting on, and his May has been a mixed bag — the Angels tagged him for 7 runs on May 6, which is how a 4.91 ERA happens this fast. The book on him is still being written. Bryan Woo, on the other hand, just turned a corner: after back-to-back ugly outings against the Cardinals and Royals where he gave up 6+ in consecutive starts for the first time in his career, he came back with 6 scoreless and 9 punchouts against the Braves. Which Woo shows up matters.

Pinnacle has Seattle at -161 and the total at 7, which feels about right with Woo on the mound and Raleigh on the shelf. The runline is essentially a coin flip at -109/-105. If you trust the bounce-back start to carry over and think Schultz's command issues continue against even a depleted big-league lineup, the Mariners ML is the play. If you think Chicago's bats — second in MLB in home runs entering the series — punish a Woo fastball that's been catching too much plate, the White Sox at +145 is fat.

Bottom line: a hot underdog with a young arm against a slumping favorite with a steadier one and no Raleigh behind the plate. The market thinks Seattle wins it 4-3. I'd lean over on the total before I'd lay the juice.
