Sean Burke got the ball for Chicago at 12:15 PM ET looking to bounce back from Saturday's 1-0 heartbreaker, while Trey Yesavage tried to keep Toronto's rotation stable after a shaky last time out.

White Sox won outright 3-0, cashing the moneyline as Burke's form outweighed the sharp money on Toronto.

Pregame

Chicago came in having already beaten Toronto three times this season, and Sean Burke gave them exactly the kind of start that makes that price look fair rather than short. Sharp money had actually piled onto the Blue Jays before first pitch, but the White Sox's edge in both recent form and pitching depth made them the right side to build around anyway.

The Blue Jays are already without Addison Barger and Anthony Santander in the outfield, and Max Scherzer's rehab has stalled again after a round of cortisone shots — that's a rotation and a lineup both running thin on reinforcements. Chicago, by contrast, is mostly whole and riding the arm of a starter who's been the best version of himself all July.

None of that stopped the market from finding action on both sides all weekend, but by Sunday the value had shifted — and it showed up fast once the lineups were set.

Burke did exactly what he's done for six starts running: pounded the zone, missed enough bats, and never let Toronto's lineup get comfortable. Chicago scratched across a run in the 4th and broke it open with a two-spot in the 6th, and that was more than enough support given how the Blue Jays have hit lately.

This was the fourth time this season Chicago has beaten Toronto, and it fit the pattern — the Blue Jays' offense has been near the bottom of the league in scoring for weeks, and Sunday's four hits and zero runs was just the latest example. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s power has cooled off, Alejandro Kirk and Daulton Varsho haven't been much better, and manager John Schneider has openly called for more punch out of this group.

Toronto did steal one game in this set behind a shutdown bullpen effort Saturday, so it's not like the pitching staff can't hold its own. But asking that unit to carry a lineup this banged-up and this cold every night is a lot, and Sunday was a reminder of how thin the margin gets when the bats go quiet.
