Taj Bradley gets the ball for the Twins on Saturday, and Robert Gasser counters for the Brewers, first pitch set for 6:10 PM CT at American Family Field. Bradley's been solid enough on the season, but walks have crept into his game over his last several starts, and against a Milwaukee lineup that doesn't chase, free passes get expensive fast.

Milwaukee is the best team in baseball right now and Minnesota is patching together a rotation missing multiple starters for the year. This isn't close on paper, and the Brewers being the far more complete club top to bottom makes them the play here.

Gasser is still building back into form after Tommy John surgery, and his last time out was actually his best of the stretch: 5 innings, 1 earned run, 6 strikeouts against the Angels. He's not overpowering, but he's throwing enough strikes to keep Milwaukee in ballgames, which is really all this offense needs from him. Kyle Harrison's return from the IL got fans excited before cramping cut his last start short, so the Brewers are managing bodies a bit even while they're rolling.

Jake Bauers has been day-to-day with an abdominal issue and the Brewers would obviously love him back in the lineup given how well things are going, but Milwaukee has depth to spare right now and it hasn't slowed them down one bit.

Minnesota is technically still playing like a buyer, not a seller, at the deadline, but the roster tells a different story on the mound. Joe Ryan's out with a glute strain, Byron Buxton is still without a firm return timetable, and that's before you even get to the pitchers already lost for the year. It's a lot to overcome against the best team in the National League.

The Brewers have won 3 straight and taken 3 of their last 4 from Pittsburgh, the kind of steady, unspectacular winning that's carried them to the top of the NL Central all summer. The Twins, meanwhile, are 1-4 over their last 5 with a win to close it out, which at least stops the bleeding heading into Milwaukee.

None of this screams trap game for the Brewers. They're deeper, healthier where it matters, and playing with the kind of margin for error a 72-43 record buys you. Minnesota's counting on Bradley to keep it close and hoping the offense can scratch out enough against a Brewers pitching staff that's been getting the job done even while shuffling arms in and out.
