Detroit went off at -151 as the clear favorite here, and that price reflected a team that had won 11 of 14 against an Angels club with one of the league's worst records. The Mize injury muddies things after the fact, but the pregame read on talent gap was correct even though the result flipped.

It nearly went sideways in a different way. Mize took a Jo Adell comebacker off his left hand in the fourth inning and had to leave, forcing Detroit's bullpen into extra work on getaway day. That's an unwelcome subplot for a Tigers rotation already picking up the pieces from a rough injury stretch — and it's part of why the market gave this one a real number instead of a laugher.

Context matters here: Detroit came in having won 11 of its last 14 and playing its best ball of the season, clawing back into the AL Central and wild-card picture. Mize's exit is the bigger story than the final score.
