First pitch is 7:15 PM CT at Busch Stadium, and the pitching matchup is a real study in contrasts. Ryan Feltner takes the ball for Colorado carrying a 5.75 ERA that doesn't look like much on paper, while Kyle Leahy gets the nod for St. Louis off a 3.44 mark that's made him one of the better stories in the Cardinals' rotation this year.

St. Louis is the play here off the mound matchup alone — Leahy's 3.44 ERA dwarfs Feltner's 5.75, even accounting for Feltner's better recent stretch. Colorado's 3-game skid and threadbare rotation depth make backing the Rockies outright a tough sell on the road. The Cardinals' price reflects a real gap in current form and roster health.

The lineup cards matter here too. St. Louis gets Jordan Walker back after knee soreness and Masyn Winn back at shortstop, filling in two real holes just as Colorado rolls into town shorthanded everywhere on the pitching side. The Rockies are still without Jose Quintana and Chase Dollander, both on the 60-day IL, and Kris Bryant remains sidelined with back trouble that hasn't let up.

St. Louis, meanwhile, sent Lars Nootbaar to Arizona at the deadline, a move that reads more like a retool than a full sprint at October. That doesn't mean the Cardinals have stopped playing good baseball. It just means the roster in front of Colorado tonight isn't the same one that opened the year.

Feltner's actual season line undersells where he's been lately. Since coming back off the IL in late May, he's turned into arguably Colorado's most dependable arm — a real positive against a Rockies staff that's been gutted by injuries all year. The tradeoff is he's been streaky doing it, with a couple of ugly starts mixed into the stretch, so which version shows up tonight is anyone's guess.

Leahy's numbers are strong, but the Cardinals have quietly been managing his workload — extra rest, capped pitch counts — because he's been vulnerable the third time through a lineup. Colorado's offense has had its moments even during the skid, so if Leahy's still on the mound in the sixth, that's exactly the matchup the Rockies want to see.
