Robert Gasser gets the ball for Milwaukee on Saturday, July 25, still finding his footing after a bumpy big-league return earlier this month. Ryan Feltner takes the mound for Colorado looking to keep building on the best stretch of his season.

Milwaukee's the best team in the National League not named the Dodgers, and this matchup isn't close on paper. Gasser's coming off his sharpest outing of the year while Feltner just got shelled by Cincinnati, which only widens the gap. Backing the Brewers here is about as straightforward as moneyline reads get in July.

Feltner's been the Rockies' most reliable arm since he came back from injury in late May, but his last outing against the Reds was a disaster — 2.1 innings, 8 earned runs, the kind of start that erases weeks of progress in one afternoon. Gasser, by contrast, was arguably at his best in his last time out, going 5 shutout-adjacent innings against Miami with zero walks. Two pitchers heading in very different directions.

07/25 Lineup

Milwaukee's lineup has quietly been the story of the season. A 64-38 record is the second-best in baseball behind only the Dodgers, and the Brewers have built a comfortable cushion atop the NL Central. Colorado, meanwhile, keeps finding new ways to lose — four straight series defeats and a lineup that got shut out just days ago against Washington.

The Rockies did show some life last week, dropping 10 runs on the Reds in one game, so this isn't a team that's dead at the plate. But the pitching depth chart tells the real story — Colorado's rotation has been gutted by injuries to Jose Quintana, Chase Dollander and McCade Brown, forcing the club to lean on arms who weren't part of the original plan.

Milwaukee isn't exactly at full strength either. Brandon Woodruff is done for the year after shoulder surgery, and the Brewers are nursing Kyle Harrison and DL Hall back from their own injuries. The difference is depth — Milwaukee's kept winning through all of it, going 4-1 over its last 5 games, while Colorado's last 5 have been a coin flip that mostly landed on tails.

None of this changes the shape of Saturday night. Milwaukee's chasing a franchise-best season, Colorado's playing out the string in a lost year, and first pitch at American Family Field is set for 6:10 PM CT.
