Drew Rasmussen got the ball for Tampa Bay looking to bounce back from a rough turn against the Yankees, while Kevin Gausman tried to keep the Blue Jays afloat after a stretch where Toronto simply couldn't find its footing.

The Rays crushed it outright, with the deeper-lineup bull case validated by 21 hits and a 10-run win.

We backed the Rays at -111 and this one wasn't close. Tampa Bay's deeper lineup and Rasmussen's edge over Gausman on paper played out exactly as expected, with the Rays running away from a Toronto team that's struggled to find consistent form all summer.

Neither pitcher made it out unscathed, but only one offense showed up. Gausman had been solid against San Diego his last time out, yet the Rays lineup teed off on him early, and a shaky Toronto defense that committed 2 errors didn't do him any favors.

By the time the dust settled, the Rays had piled up 21 hits against a Blue Jays pitching staff that had nothing to answer with, turning what oddsmakers pegged as a tight run line into a laugher.

Tampa Bay's lineup, which had been ice-cold through the Boston series, exploded for crooked numbers in 4 different innings, capped by a 4-run 9th that turned a comfortable win into a rout. Rasmussen settled in after a wobbly start and got the win, a stark contrast to his last outing where he lasted just 2.1 innings against New York.

Toronto, now sitting well under .500, has spent the summer fighting uphill against a wave of injuries across the roster, and this loss won't make that climb any easier. The lineup simply couldn't generate anything against Tampa Bay's pitching, managing just 2 runs on the day.
