Nathan Eovaldi and Grant Holmes squared off in the rubber match at 1:35 PM ET, with Eovaldi making his return after missing time around the All-Star break and Holmes trying to find a fifth inning that's eluded him most of the summer.

Hit — Atlanta won outright 8-5, exactly the lineup-depth bull case that was banked on.

Pregame

We backed the Braves at plus price and they delivered, riding a deep lineup that doesn't need Acuna to be dangerous. Eovaldi's recent form made this a live dog, but Atlanta's offense proved capable of overwhelming a shorthanded Rangers pitching staff.

Atlanta's lineup has had to survive without Ronald Acuna Jr. for weeks now, and it's shown — the Braves are just 10-18 in games he's missed. He's ramping up at Triple-A and getting close, but Sunday's finale was still one the rest of the roster had to win on its own, with Mike Yastrzemski, Sean Murphy and Ha-Seong Kim all still on the shelf too.

Texas came in banged up as well, without Corey Seager and Danny Jansen, and leaning on a bullpen that just lost Chris Martin to a shoulder issue. The Rangers had already shown they could hang — they won the series' middle game 7-6 — so nobody expected Atlanta to cruise, and the market treated this one as tight for good reason.

This series had already delivered a 15-1 laugher and a wild back-and-forth 7-6 finish, so a clean, low-scoring finale was never a guarantee. Atlanta strung together 3 runs in the 7th and tacked on more late, while Texas kept swinging back with a 3-run 5th and solo shots in the 8th and 9th to make it interesting.

In the end, Atlanta's deeper lineup and better health at the top of the order were enough to take the series. Holmes didn't need to be dominant, and the Braves' offense did the rest, piling up 14 hits against a Rangers pitching staff that's stretched thin behind Eovaldi.
