Texas is favored at -143 and it's earned — they just took the opener and now get a struggling Angels team that's dropped 3 in a row. Ryan Johnson's 7.11 ERA against a Rangers lineup that's won 4 of 5 is a mismatch on paper, even with Texas down Eovaldi for this series.

Bradford's still building his workload back — he went just 4.1 innings his last time out against San Francisco, but he didn't allow a run and struck out 5 without letting the game get away from him. Johnson's been the bigger problem for L.A. all year. He's got swing-and-miss stuff, a cutter and splitter that can miss bats, but the results haven't matched the raw ability — a 7.11 ERA and a tendency to give up the mistake-pitch homer that's sunk him more than once this season.

The Rangers just walked into Anaheim and took Monday's opener 4-1, and now they're doing it without their best pitcher. Nathan Eovaldi landed on the 15-day IL with elbow inflammation, a real blow to a rotation that was already down Jack Leiter for the year. Texas has managed to win anyway, and that's the story with this club right now — they keep finding a way even as the injury list stacks up.

The Angels, meanwhile, are in freefall. They've dropped 3 straight, getting outscored badly in the process, and the injury situation isn't helping — Sebastian Rivero's rehab assignment ended in a setback, and now L.A. is thin behind the plate too. Anthony Rendon and Yoan Moncada are both long gone at third base, which has left this lineup without much punch against a Texas team that's rolling.

None of this is new for the Angels — they've been chasing .500 all year and now sit 29 games under it, while Texas is fighting to stay above the break-even line in a crowded AL race. Every game like this matters more for Texas than it does for a club playing out the string in Anaheim.
