Philadelphia had actually snapped a four-game skid just days earlier with an 11-4 blowout of the Yankees, so there were signs of life heading south. That life didn't carry over — Miami had already taken the first two games of the set, including a 1-0 nailbiter, before the bats woke up in the finale.

Both rosters are dealing with real attrition. The Phillies are also without Johan Rojas and Adolis Garcia for the long haul following surgeries, while the Marlins are nursing a handful of relievers back from injury of their own. Neither team was working with a full deck, which made the finale look more like a scramble than a showcase.
In the end it was Miami's bullpen and timely hitting that decided it, with the Marlins scoring in three straight innings from the 5th on to pull away. The sweep drops Philadelphia further off its recent momentum and hands Miami its first series win in weeks — a small building block for a team still trying to climb back to .500.
