The injury sheets were ugly before this weekend and got uglier. The Padres are already without Joe Musgrove, Yu Darvish, Nick Pivetta, German Marquez and Matt Waldron from the rotation, plus Jake Cronenworth and Ramon Laureano from the lineup. Now Bogaerts and Fermin are question marks against a Baltimore team that's missing Jordan Westburg, Ryan Mountcastle, Dean Kremer, Chris Bassitt and Felix Bautista. Both clubs are basically running out of warm bodies, which is part of why both records sit below where preseason expected.
San Diego comes in at 36-33 after Saturday's 9-3 thumping, with Fernando Tatis Jr. driving most of the offense lately. Baltimore is 34-38 but has actually been one of the better teams in the league since May 20, so don't let the record fool you. They get the matinee at home, where Rogers has been better than his ERA suggests over his last three turns.

The plot here is whether Buehler keeps the trend line going against an Orioles lineup that just hung 9 on Padres pitching the night before they got blanked themselves. If Bogaerts can't go, Manny Machado has to carry the heavy load in a building where every Padres at-bat is going to be heckled after the HBP saga. Rubber match, bad blood, and a 1:35 PM ET first pitch — there are worse Sunday afternoons.
