Kyle Bradish took the ball for Baltimore looking to build on a strong turn against Kansas City, while Boston countered with rookie righty Eduardo Rivera for the 7:10 PM ET nightcap of the doubleheader. Rivera's been up and down since his April debut, but interim manager Chad Tracy leaned on the kid's mid-90s heat to keep a reeling Orioles lineup off balance.

Boston's lineup and Rivera held up in a 6-3 win, exactly the kind of shorthanded-Orioles matchup the pick banked on.

Boston's moneyline price still felt like value given the state of this Orioles roster — no Rutschman, no Basallo, and a bullpen running on fumes behind Bradish. Rivera's stuff plays even in short bursts, and this Red Sox lineup has been finding late-game answers all month. Baltimore's bats have had life on the road recently, but this was never a fair fight on paper.

The matchup looked lopsided before a pitch was thrown. Baltimore is playing without both catchers — Adley Rutschman nursing a wrist injury and Samuel Basallo landing on the 10-day IL Wednesday with shoulder inflammation — while a graveyard of arms including Ryan Helsley, Keegan Akin, Felix Bautista and Colin Selby all sit on the 60-day list. Boston's rotation is just as thin, but the Sox have found a way to win anyway.

That's been the story of Boston's July: no matter who's hurt, someone steps up. The Sox carried a 14-game winning streak into Wednesday's doubleheader, one shy of tying the franchise record set back in 1946, and Rivera and the bullpen made sure the good vibes didn't stop in the nightcap.

Boston made this one look easy early, plating 4 runs in the first before Baltimore had a chance to breathe, then answering every Orioles response the rest of the way. Baltimore actually out-hit the Sox 11-9 but couldn't turn that into anything more than a 3-run night, stranding traffic all over the basepaths.

It's been a rough stretch health-wise on both sides of this series, but Baltimore is feeling it more. With Rutschman and Basallo both out, the Orioles are throwing green depth right behind the plate, and it showed up in the little moments that swing a close game.

Boston, banged up as it is up and down the rotation, just keeps finding bodies to plug in and keeps winning. At 52-48 the Sox aren't running away with the division, but the vibes at Fenway say otherwise right now — and Baltimore, at 49-53, leaves town having dropped the finale of a series it couldn't afford to lose.
