The streak itself is the whole story here. Boston was buried at the bottom of the AL as recently as late June and has since ripped off 14 straight wins, matching the second-longest run in franchise history and putting the 1946 club's 15-game record squarely in the crosshairs. That '46 team had Ted Williams in the lineup; this one's doing it with a patched-together rotation and a lineup that's found its groove at exactly the right time.

Baltimore isn't walking in dead, either. The O's won 7 straight of their own before Boston finally got to them Monday night, sweeping a series in Houston along the way. This is a team that still believes it's the second-best story in the division right now — it just ran into a buzzsaw at the wrong time.
