Brandon Young (7-2, 3.36 ERA) took the ball for the series finale looking to cap off Baltimore's road sweep, while Hunter Brown (1-0, 4.05 ERA) tried to give Houston something to feel good about heading into the second half. First pitch went off at 1:10 PM CT with the Orioles' 6-game winning streak squarely on the line.

The Orioles won outright 5-2, cashing the moneyline as Baltimore's roll and Houston's thin lineup both showed up.

Pregame

Baltimore's plus money here (originally +107, still +109) was the definition of a live road dog — this team owned the series and rode a 6-game winning streak into the finale. Houston's home price banked entirely on comfort and familiarity, but the Astros had just lost their shortstop and first baseman to injury mid-series. Backing the hot team over the banged-up host was the read all weekend.

Houston walked into Sunday already shorthanded. Jeremy Pena left Saturday's loss with a hamstring issue and Christian Walker exited with hip tightness, and neither was in the finale's lineup. Baltimore had its own scare when catcher Samuel Basallo left early with right shoulder discomfort, a reminder that even a team on this kind of run isn't operating at full strength.

None of that stopped the Orioles from doing what they've done for two weeks straight. Baltimore had already taken the first two games of this series and still found value as the road side, the kind of setup that tends to end badly for a club that had dropped 4 of its previous 5.

The line score reads like a team that just kept chipping away. The Orioles scored in the 3rd, 5th and 6th innings and never let Houston within a run for long, while the Astros' offense produced just enough to make it look competitive on paper. It's the same formula that carried Baltimore through the whole series — string together enough at-bats and let a diminished Astros lineup do the rest.

For Houston, this is starting to look like a season slipping away in real time. The Astros fell to 47-53 with the loss, their fourth setback in five games, and now they're waiting on updates on two everyday infielders at a point in the schedule where they can't afford to lose more ground.

Baltimore, meanwhile, keeps doing this the hard way — winning a series on the road, patching a lineup that just lost its catcher, and getting steady work from Young, who's quietly become one of the better stories in the league this year. At 48-51, the Orioles are still under .500, but a sweep like this is the kind of thing that changes how a season feels.
