Freddy Peralta walked into Milwaukee for the first time since the Brewers shipped him to Queens over the winter, and it wasn't the reunion anyone in Mets camp wanted. First pitch went off at 6:40 PM CT, with Jacob Misiorowski — the rookie who's quietly authored one of the best seasons in baseball — on the other mound looking to make his former teammate's old team pay.

Brewers rolled to an 8-3 win as home favorites, cashing the moneyline pick with ease.

Pregame

Backing Milwaukee at -206 wasn't glamorous, but Misiorowski's been the best story in baseball this year and the Brewers own one of the sport's best records for a reason. New York came in as sizable underdogs for good cause — the offense has been inconsistent and the rotation is stretched thin behind Peralta. Laying the price on the favorite here was the right side.

New York is already without Mark Vientos, who fractured his right hand and landed on the 10-day IL, thinning out a lineup that hasn't had much margin for error all year. Milwaukee's dealing with its own attrition — Brandon Woodruff is done for the season after opting for shoulder surgery, and Sal Frelick and David Hamilton are both nursing injuries — but the Brewers have kept winning anyway, riding one of the deepest rosters in the league into this series.

None of that stopped Milwaukee from opening as a heavy home favorite, and the board reflected just how lopsided this one looked on paper. New York came in as one of the National League's coldest teams by record, and Wisconsin sensed blood early.

The Brewers didn't wait around. Milwaukee scored in three of the first three innings, building a cushion before the Mets even got their footing, then tacked on 3 more in the 6th to turn a comfortable lead into a laugher. New York's only real push came far too late — a 2-run 8th that made the final margin look a little tidier than the game actually felt.

For Peralta, it's the kind of outing that's only going to keep fueling trade-deadline chatter out of Queens. Misiorowski, meanwhile, just kept building on a rookie season nobody saw coming, and Milwaukee's grip on the NL Central isn't loosening anytime soon.
