Sunday's series finale at American Family Field was a Perez-Gasser matchup on paper, but neither line quite matched the stuff on the mound. First pitch went off at 1:10 PM CT with Eury Perez (5-7, 3.57 ERA) trying to keep Miami's freefall from getting worse, while Robert Gasser (2-4, 4.91 ERA) looked to steady a Brewers rotation that's taken some real hits lately.

Brewers won 3-1 on a walk-off ninth, cashing the home ml exactly as the roster-depth bull case argued.

Pregame

We backed the Brewers on the moneyline at their entry price of -125, and the gap in records made that an easy lean even with sharp money piling onto Miami. Milwaukee's deeper roster and better recent form made them the play regardless of the day-to-day scoring, and a struggling Marlins offense searching for answers only strengthened the case.

Milwaukee got a scare with a rotation piece this weekend when Kyle Harrison's precautionary MRI came back clean and his bullpen session went smoothly, which matters with Brandon Woodruff already done for the year after announcing season-ending shoulder surgery. On the other side, Miami played Sunday without shortstop Otto Lopez, held out with a finger issue, one more name subtracted from a lineup that's already without Owen Caissie in right field.

None of that mattered much in the moment. Miami had dropped five straight and four of five to Milwaukee specifically over the past two days, and this one looked like it might snap the streak for a while — the Marlins scratched across a run early and made it stand up deep into the game.

Then the ninth inning happened. Milwaukee, held off the board for eight full innings by Perez and the Miami bullpen, broke through with a three-run rally to walk it off and turn a quiet afternoon into a celebration at home plate. It's the kind of finish that fits this Brewers team right now — losers of three straight to Pittsburgh a week ago, winners of three straight against Miami to close this series.

For the Marlins, it's the same story that's defined their last two weeks: solid enough pitching to hang around, not enough offense or bullpen stability to close it out. Miami's relief corps is running thin with Ronny Henriquez, Anthony Bender, William Kempner, John King and Andrew Nardi all on the injured list in some form, and a one-run cushion just isn't safe with that kind of depth behind the rotation.

Milwaukee heads into the next stretch riding momentum and sitting comfortably atop the standings at 61-37. Miami, meanwhile, needs to find answers fast — a sixth straight loss is not the note anyone in that clubhouse wanted walking into the next series.
