First pitch is set for 3:10 PM CT, and the pitching matchup alone is worth the price of admission. Max Meyer takes the mound for Miami looking every bit like an All-Star, while Shane Drohan tries to keep Milwaukee's rotation patchwork from unraveling further.

Milwaukee's price reflects a team with baseball's second-best record hosting at home, and that's earned. Miami's bullpen issues make late-game execution a real question mark even with Meyer dealing early, and the Marlins as road underdogs still carry appeal given how they've played since June. We're sticking with the Brewers to get it done at home.

Drohan was solid enough in his last outing against Pittsburgh, going 6.1 innings with 6 strikeouts and 0 walks despite taking the loss, and Milwaukee needs that kind of length. The Brewers are already without Brandon Woodruff for the year, Kyle Harrison and Jacob Misiorowski are both banged up, and now Sal Frelick is out after leaving Friday's series opener with right shoulder soreness. That's a lot of holes for a first-place club to plug.

Miami isn't operating at full strength either. The bullpen has been gutted all season, with Ronny Henriquez, Anthony Bender, William Kempner and John King all sidelined, which puts extra pressure on Meyer to go deep and on whoever's left in relief to hold a lead if he hands one over.

Context matters here. The Marlins were a sub-.500 club in April and May before catching fire, and they enter this weekend just a few games back in a crowded NL East and Wild Card picture. Meyer has been the engine of that turnaround, reworking his pitch mix and pairing a new sweeper with a lower arm slot to become one of the best stories in baseball. The Brewers, meanwhile, own the second-best record in the sport and just walked Miami off in extras on Friday night, so there's no shortage of confidence in that clubhouse either.

Both teams are dinged up in ways that could shape how this one plays out late. Miami's shorthanded bullpen is the bigger long-term worry, but Milwaukee's rotation questions and the fresh uncertainty around Frelick give this game more variance than the standings alone would suggest. A series that started as measuring stick for two good teams now doubles as an injury-management test for both.
