Martín Pérez took the ball for Atlanta looking to build on a start where he allowed just 1 hit over 7 scoreless innings against Washington, and Janson Junk came in for Miami off a solid 5 shutout innings of his own against the Mets. On paper it looked like a pitchers' duel at 7:15 PM ET. It did not stay that way.

This one wasn't close — Atlanta cruised to an 11-3 win and the moneyline pick cashed comfortably. The bull case on Pérez's form held up even though he wasn't the whole story; the offense did the heavy lifting once the bats woke up in the third.

Pregame

Atlanta's price isn't cheap, but with Pérez holding opponents scoreless across his last two outings and the Braves riding a 7-game win streak, this is a lay-the-favorite spot. Junk has pitched better than his ERA lately, yet Miami's dropped the first two games of this series and the offense has gone cold against Atlanta's staff. The one tracked bet we've seen leans Miami, but it's a small one and not enough to flip the read — back the Braves.

Both starters worked around trouble early, with the game scoreless through 2. Atlanta cracked it open with a 2-run third, then buried Miami with a 4-run sixth and never let up, tacking on 2 more in the seventh and 3 in the eighth. Miami's lone push came late — 2 runs in the seventh and 1 in the ninth — but by then the deficit was already a mountain, and 3 Marlins errors didn't help matters.

The final line: 14 hits for Atlanta against 8 for Miami, and zero Braves errors against 3 Marlins miscues. It was as clean a night as Atlanta has had all week, and it turned what started as a pitching matchup into a laugher by the middle innings.

This one completed a series finale, with Atlanta having already taken the first 2 meetings against Miami before Thursday's blowout put a bow on the sweep. The Braves have not lost since before this series started, riding that 5-game streak all the way through a Marlins team that had actually won 3 straight of its own against the Mets just days earlier before running into this buzzsaw.

Miami's rotation and bullpen depth are getting stretched thin, with Max Meyer, Robby Snelling and Adam Mazur all out for the season or close to it, and multiple relievers still working back from injury. Atlanta isn't exactly whole either — Robert Suarez, Reynaldo Lopez, Joe Jimenez and Joey Wentz are all sidelined, and Jurickson Profar is out for the year on suspension — but none of that mattered Thursday. The lineup and the bullpen both showed up.

For Atlanta, it's the kind of win that validates a hot stretch — no shaky innings, no bullpen scares, just a complete team win against a divisional-ish NL foe. For Miami, it's a series to forget, and a reminder that the gap between these two clubs right now is real.
