Miami had been the hotter team rolling in — four straight wins, including a sweep of the Mets — before Tuesday flattened them. They're still 26-30, still treading water in the NL East, but the rotation behind Pérez and Alcantara is held together with tape. Thomas White is dealing with a shoulder thing, Robby Snelling and Adam Mazur are gone for months on UCL stuff, and the offense is essentially running without Griffin Conine in left.
Toronto's injury list is somehow worse. Berríos had full Tommy John plus a stress fracture repaired. Cease is playing light catch with a hamstring. Scherzer is doing live bullpens with a forearm. Alejandro Kirk hasn't even hit off a machine yet. The Jays are 26-29 anyway, which is honestly a minor miracle given the names on the shelf.

The market sees this one cleanly: Toronto -147 at home with a 7.5 total and the public hammering the home spread (70% of bets, 92% of handle on Blue Jays -1.5). Pinnacle has the Jays implied at 58.3%, which feels about right when Gausman is the guy on the mound and the opposing rotation is on its fifth option. Pérez is the variance play — when he's on, he's a top-15 arm in the sport; when he's off, the Marlins lose 9-2.
Give me Gausman to do Gausman things — 6-plus innings, a handful of punchouts, splitter doing the heavy lifting — and Toronto takes the series. But Pérez's last start says he might be the one guy in this Miami rotation capable of stealing it back. Lean Jays, but not with both hands.
