First pitch from Dodger Stadium is 7:10 PM PT, with Emerson Hancock on the bump for Seattle against Eric Lauer for LA. Hancock's been the steadiest arm in a rough Mariners season, and Lauer's carved out a real rotation spot since coming over from Toronto — but both guys are walking into a series that already flipped once this week.

Dodgers are the play here even after Tuesday's stumble — getting Edwin Diaz back stabilizes a shaky bullpen picture and this roster is simply deeper than Seattle's top to bottom. The Mariners proved they can win one game against LA, but backing that up on a short turnaround against a team defending its NL West spot is a different ask.

The bigger story in LA is the bullpen finally getting a body back: Edwin Diaz is being activated off the injured list today after rehabbing from elbow surgery, and Dave Roberts needs the depth. Seattle, meanwhile, has been brutal against left-handed pitching all year — worst OPS in baseball versus lefties — which makes a lefty like Lauer a matchup the Mariners can't love on paper, recent form or not.

Neither club is playing its best baseball right now. The Dodgers have dropped two of their last five, including Tuesday's meltdown against this same Seattle team, while the Mariners are still trying to find any kind of rhythm as the calendar creeps toward the August 3 trade deadline.

Seattle's win Tuesday was a genuine jolt — a team that's lost a lot of close ones finally landing a haymaker on a division leader. But the underlying numbers still tell a rough story: Cal Raleigh, last year's AL MVP runner-up, has been closer to replacement level than superstar over his last 54 games, and Julio Rodriguez is still working his way back after a concussion cost him the final stretch of the first half. Those two need to be good for this offense to matter.

The Dodgers' injury list reads like a rotation and bullpen graveyard — Glasnow, Snell, Treinen, Miller, Stone and more all working their way back in some form — but a 67-40 team with that much waiting in the wings is still the scarier long-term problem for the rest of the league. For tonight, it's just about whether LA can shake off a bad loss against a Seattle club that's desperate for any signature win it can get before the deadline reshapes their roster.
