Seattle at 25-29 is treading water, and the rotation slot they keep handing to Castillo has become a problem. He's 1-5 with a 6.41 ERA, was reportedly bumped toward the bullpen earlier this month, and now draws a road start against one of the better contact-hitting teams in the league. The Athletics rank 4th in MLB in team batting average at .249 — not a great matchup for a guy who can't find the strike zone.

Aaron Civale, meanwhile, is exactly what the A's signed him to be in February. 5-1, 3.31 ERA, eats 5-plus every fifth day, doesn't beat himself. His last time out he went 5 scoreless against Kansas City. The Athletics paid $6 million for stability and they're getting it.

Seattle's lineup is also down its biggest bat. Cal Raleigh is on the IL with an oblique and got shut down for a week before re-evaluation, which means the M's are running out a depleted offense that already ranks 29th in batting average. Brendan Donovan is out too. You can see why Pinnacle has the Mariners as the underdog despite being the road favorite-by-pitching-name on paper — the market isn't buying Castillo.

The A's aren't fully healthy either — Jacob Wilson at short and Max Muncy at third are both still working back — but at home, with Civale on the mound and Castillo on the ropes, they're the side the number likes.

Total sits at 10.5, which feels generous given Civale's profile and the state of Seattle's bats. If Castillo gets chased in the 4th, sure. If he gives them 5 like he did in Houston last week, this thing scrapes the under. The pick on the board is the home team and a lean to the under.
