First pitch in Arlington goes at 7:05 PM CT, and the Giants are turning to Blade Tidwell to keep the good vibes rolling — his first career MLB start after building his whole season out of the bullpen. He's opposite MacKenzie Gore, who's quietly been better than his 6-9 record suggests.

Texas is still the moneyline favorite here even in the middle of a season-high losing streak, and that's because Gore's last start was genuinely dominant. Betting the Rangers means betting that a proven arm settles things down against a Giants lineup starting a pitcher in his first big league start ever. It's a bet on talent snapping a bad stretch, not on recent form.

Gore's last time out he was excellent — 7 innings, 3 earned runs, 9 strikeouts, zero walks against Tampa Bay — and still took the loss, which about sums up Texas's stretch. The Rangers have been outscored badly during this skid, getting run out of the building in a couple of those losses, and Skip Schumaker's lineup has looked lifeless against anything with velocity.

San Francisco isn't walking in with a full deck either. Matt Chapman, Harrison Bader, Jesus Rodriguez and Casey Schmitt are all out, so this is a patchwork Giants roster leaning on whoever's healthy — and it's still finding ways to win in Texas.

Jung Hoo Lee has been the story of this series, going deep twice with Logan Webb tossing 6 shutout innings behind him. That's the version of the Giants that shows up when the lineup clicks, and it's the version Texas has had no answer for.

Texas still has the safety net of Gore on the mound, a pitcher who's flashed real swing-and-miss stuff even in a rough overall season. But asking a beat-up lineup to snap a 6-game slide against a team that just took the series opener is a tall order, especially with the bullpen worn down from getting bled dry in blowouts.

Neither team is playing for much beyond pride at this point — Texas is fading from the Wild Card picture and San Francisco's been well under .500 for weeks — but a rock-bottom team on a 6-game skid hosting the club that just embarrassed them is still worth a look.
