Adrian Houser is the story for the Giants. The 5.79 ERA is ugly, but the last two times out he's been a different guy — six-plus innings of one-run ball in the loss to San Diego, then helping push past the Dodgers on May 13. If that version of Houser shows up again, the Giants have a chance even without their ace.
Springs has quietly been the A's most consistent arm. He did get pulled early against the Royals with right hip soreness, but Mark Kotsay called it precautionary and he was cleared to make his next turn without missing one. The 4.22 ERA flatters him a touch — his peripherals are sharper than the line score suggests.

The A's are also missing real pieces in Jacob Wilson, Max Muncy and Denzel Clarke.
