Game 2 fell to Will Klein and Ryan Yarbrough, and neither name screamed marquee matchup. Klein came in 3-4 with a tidy 2.41 ERA in a swingman role, while Yarbrough was riding a perfect 2-0 mark despite a bloated 4.14 ERA for a Yankees staff that's been running on fumes.

Hit easily — the Dodgers' lineup depth bull point played out in an 8-2 win, and the Klein bulk-arm risk never materialized.

Pregame

We backed the Dodgers at -124 and it was never really in doubt. LA's lineup carried a shaky-on-paper Klein start into an 8-2 laugher, exactly the kind of outcome you bank on when one roster's rotation is intact and the other's is held together with tape.

That fumes comment isn't hyperbole. New York is trying to piece together a rotation with Carlos Rodon, Clarke Schmidt and Max Fried all on the injured list, which is exactly how a guy with Yarbrough's profile ends up starting a big-league game in July. The Dodgers have their own pitching graveyard — Tyler Glasnow, Blake Snell, Edwin Diaz and more are all out — but their lineup didn't need much help finding the finish line Sunday.

The Dodgers had already taken control of this series before first pitch of Game 2 at 7:20 PM ET, having won the opener 2-1 on July 17 and then Game 1 of this very doubleheader earlier Sunday. A sweep was already in the building, and the only question left was how lopsided it would get.

It got plenty lopsided. The Dodgers scratched across 2 in the 3rd, tacked on another in the 5th, then blew the game open with a 5-run 8th that turned a competitive night into a laugher. New York never found its footing, managing just 4 hits all game and a lone run in the 4th and 8th innings apiece.

For a Yankees team already replacing Aaron Judge in right field and now hunting for length behind an M*A*S*H*-unit rotation, this is the kind of series that stings. The Dodgers, at 63-36, look every bit like a team that can absorb its own pitching losses and still steamroll a contender on the road. New York falls to 54-44 and heads into the next stretch searching for answers, not just innings.
