The Dodgers are simply the deeper team here, and Betts being locked in at the plate gives them a lineup that can win games even when the pitching wobbles. Colorado's lineup is missing a middle-of-the-order bat tonight and has shown it can be overmatched by a stabilized arm like Lauer's. This is a bad spot to bet against the better roster.

The bigger story for the Dodgers was who wasn't on the mound at all. Edwin Diaz landed back on the injured list with neck inflammation after a rough six-appearance stretch that included three blown saves, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. Colorado, meanwhile, is playing this stretch without All-Star catcher Hunter Goodman, whose left shoulder strain has cost the Rockies a bat that entered the week hitting .251 with 34 home runs.

Sharp money leaned hard into the favorite before the game, and the board reflected it — the kind of lopsided market you'd expect between a 75-win club and a team stuck 25 games under .500.

This one never let either side pull away clean. Both clubs scored in the first and third, and Colorado kept answering — a run in the fifth, another in the eighth, and one more in the ninth to make it interesting late. But LA's third-inning burst and a sixth-inning run were enough of a cushion, and the Dodgers held on.

Colorado's two errors didn't help matters against a Dodgers lineup that doesn't need extra outs to do damage, and it's part of a bigger pattern for a Rockies club playing out the string without several key arms and bats.
