Arizona stole the opener 1-0 behind a Zac Gallen gem on Monday. Texas hit back hard Tuesday, with MacKenzie Gore going a career-high 8 innings and Joc Pederson leading off the game with a homer in a 7-4 win. Now we get the rubber match, and the pitching matchup is a lot less appetizing than what got us here.

Ryne Nelson (1-3, 5.68) gets the ball for the D-backs. The stuff has been fine in flashes — he came out of camp with 23 strikeouts against 2 walks in 17 Cactus League innings — but the regular season has been a grind, and Arizona's rotation is held together with duct tape while Corbin Burnes keeps throwing bullpens with no firm return date.

Kumar Rocker (1-4, 5.01) counters for Texas, and the splits tell the story: he's been a legitimate big leaguer at Globe Life and a punching bag on the road. His last time out he got pulled after 2 innings and 43 pitches in a loss to Detroit. The good news for Rangers fans is that this one is at home, where he had a sub-3.00 ERA before that Tigers start.

The injury sheets are ugly for both sides. Arizona is without Carlos Santana, who hit a setback with his adductor on a rehab assignment Sunday, plus Burnes, A.J. Puk, Justin Martinez, and Pavin Smith. Texas is missing Wyatt Langford, Nathan Eovaldi is day-to-day with a side issue, and Brandon Nimmo rolled his ankle in Tuesday's game and is day-to-day. Two depleted lineups, two shaky starters.

Pinnacle has Texas at -117, DraftKings is up at -132, and the EV math says both sides are slight losers — so this is a watch-it-and-yell game more than a bet-it game. Both teams come in 3-2 over their last 5 and within a game of .500. If Rocker shows up as the home version of himself, the Rangers take the series. If Nelson finds the spring command, the snakes leave Arlington with a winning record.
