Jose Cabrera (0-1, 4.73 ERA) gets the ball for Arizona against Michael King (5-7, 3.52), and it's about as uneven a pitching matchup as you'll find on paper. Cabrera is a 24-year-old emergency call-up who's had to grow up fast in a D-backs rotation gutted by injuries, while King's been San Diego's most trustworthy arm for weeks. First pitch is 7:10 PM PT at Petco Park.

Arizona's getting plus money as the road team, and that price feels generous for a lineup that just hung 8 runs on this same Padres club two days ago. Cabrera's inexperience is the obvious hole, but San Diego's bullpen has been running thin behind King, and a shaky middle relief crew is a real equalizer if this game gets close late. Take the dog and the number here.

Arizona didn't have a choice here. With Corbin Burnes, Michael Soroka and Ryne Nelson all out, Cabrera's been thrown into the fire, and his last outing against Milwaukee showed the rookie bumps -- 3 walks and 6 hits allowed in just 3.1 innings. San Diego's lineup, which just snapped a nasty funk with a win Tuesday, will look to make him pay early.

King is exactly the arm the Padres need on a night like this. He's coming off 7 shutout innings against Atlanta after a rough patch, and with the bullpen already thin, length from him matters. The board favors San Diego to win outright, but the number on Arizona's side reflects a lineup that's still capable of one loud inning blowing this thing open.
