The Brewers came into the finale riding three straight wins and ran into a Nationals lineup that decided to play 1985. CJ Abrams had two infield singles and scored both runs Washington needed off Nasim Nuñez's bat. Nuñez drove in two with a pair of singles, José Tena tripled in the fifth, and that was the entire offensive blueprint.

Logan Henderson — just up from Triple-A Nashville for his second start of the season — was actually excellent for Milwaukee. Six innings, three hits, eight strikeouts, no walks, perfect through four. He still took the loss because the Brewers managed exactly one run on a Joey Ortiz sac fly. When you're facing Zack Littell behind an opener and you can't square anything up, that's how a 3-2 happens.

Milwaukee's at 18-15 and still in fine shape — they took the first two games of this series and the offense around them has been productive. The Nationals are 16-19 and clearly punching above their record class right now, with manager Blake Butera's group winning three of their last five. Richard Lovelady picked up his first save of the year to close it.

Injury list is doing real work for both clubs. The Brewers are still without Jackson Chourio, Christian Yelich, Andrew Vaughn, Brandon Woodruff, and Quinn Priester — that's a lot of lineup and rotation on the shelf. Andrew Vaughn is reportedly tracking toward a Monday return from the 10-day IL, which would help. Washington just got bad news of their own: Luis Garcia Jr. is heading for an MRI on a sore right wrist after the win.

The market had Milwaukee favored at -139 with a 1.5-run spread laying -122 on the road, and the under cashed comfortably on a 8.5 total. Nothing about this one was a value play — Pinnacle's fair price had the Brewers around 57% and they lost outright. Sometimes the better team gets out-singled.
