Milwaukee sent its Cy Young front-runner to the mound for the Saturday finale at 4:15 PM PT, and the matchup on paper looked lopsided before a pitch was thrown. Jacob Misiorowski came in at 11-5 with an ERA sitting at 1.75, the best mark in baseball, against a Justin Wrobleski who was still trying to shake off a rough outing against Arizona his last time out.

Brewers won outright 4-1, and the case held up point for point — Misiorowski was exactly the shutdown arm we bet on, striking out the heart of LA's order with the bases loaded to end the only real threat all game. The Dodgers' cold offense never got going, cashing this one clean.

Pregame

Milwaukee's price still reflects a team with MLB's best record sending out its ace. Misiorowski's been about as dominant as any starter in the league this year, and that's a bigger edge than anything a shaky Wrobleski start offers the home side. Back the Brewers to leave LA having taken this series.

Wrobleski's last start read ugly on the page: 3.1 innings, 3 earned runs, a loss. He wasn't the only issue for LA at the plate, either — the Dodgers have been playing without both Will Smith and Dalton Rushing behind the plate, leaning on a fill-in catching tandem while the offense as a whole has cooled off considerably from its first-half form.

None of that mattered much once Misiorowski settled in. He needed his best stuff to get through the fifth, and he had it in reserve.

Joey Ortiz put Milwaukee up 2-0 with a two-run shot in the second, and William Contreras made it 4-0 with another two-run blast in the fourth — both off Wrobleski, who couldn't find an answer for the Brewers' lineup all afternoon. LA's only run came on a Shohei Ohtani RBI triple in the third, and that was as close as the Dodgers got.

The game swung hardest in the fifth. Misiorowski loaded the bases with one out and had to face Ohtani, Max Muncy and Mookie Betts back-to-back-to-back with the game still very much alive. He struck out all three, topping 102 mph to freeze Ohtani looking before blowing away Muncy and Betts. Jackson Chourio backed him up with a diving grab in center that kept the Dodgers off the board even further, and Aaron Ashby closed it out for the save.

Milwaukee is dealing with its own attrition — Brice Turang sat out with a knee issue, and the Brewers are missing Cooper Pratt and Sal Frelick up the middle and in the outfield — but none of it showed up on the field Saturday. The win pushed Milwaukee to 2-1 against the Dodgers in this set, with the offense clicking behind two homers and a starter who's making a real case for the league's best arm right now.
