Burrows is the other side of the coin. He's been getting torched on the four-seamer all season — hitters slugging close to .950 against it — and his last time out he walked 5 and gave up 5 earned in 5 innings to Pittsburgh. The Astros have stuck with him because the rotation behind Framber and Valdez is basically a MASH unit. Hunter Brown is rehabbing at Sugar Land, McCullers is in a throwing progression, Javier and Walter and Wesneski and Blanco are all on the 60-day. Houston is running out healthy arms.

The market sees this as a coin flip. Pinnacle has the Astros at -107 on the moneyline, the A's at -103, with the total parked at 9.5 and the under getting the juice at -131. That matches the read — Jump has been sharper than Burrows lately, but the A's lineup is missing Jacob Wilson and Max Muncy and just got no-doubt embarrassed twice in one day. If Jump throws strikes and the A's can punch Burrows' fastball even a little, this is a live dog spot. If they swing like they did at 8 PM last night, it's another beatdown.
One more wrinkle: Carlos Correa is done after ankle surgery and Yainer Diaz is still on the 10-day with the oblique, so Houston's lineup isn't quite the murderer's row it looked like in March either. Both of these teams are 4 games under .500 for a reason. The Astros just happen to be the version playing at home with a doubleheader of confidence in their back pocket.
