Grayson Rodriguez takes the ball for the Angels still finding his footing after a midseason trade sent him from Baltimore to Anaheim, and it hasn't gone smoothly — he's 3-4 with a bloated 7.24 ERA since the move. Ryan Gusto isn't doing much better across the diamond, an 0-3 mark and 4.80 ERA that has him still hunting his first win as a National League starter. Neither guy walks to the mound with much momentum for the 1:40 PM ET series decider.

Miami's the deserved favorite here, and the market's fully aware of how bad the Angels have been away from home this season — a 20-39 road mark that's dragged this whole trip down. The Marlins have real teeth at loanDepot park and just blew the doors off LA in the series' second game. Back Miami to close this one out at home.

The bigger problem for the Angels is everything around Rodriguez. Their pitching depth has been gutted — Sam Bachman just landed on the 15-day IL, and both Yusei Kikuchi and Robert Stephenson are done for the year — while the lineup is missing Anthony Rendon and Yoan Moncada at third base. Miami's rotation has its own holes with Max Meyer, Robby Snelling and Adam Mazur all shelved, but the Marlins have been the sturdier operation overall, and the sportsbooks have noticed.

That gap shows up squarely in the market, with Miami sitting as a clear favorite off the back of Saturday's blowout win and a road record for the Angels that's been ugly all year — Los Angeles is just 20-39 away from home in 2026. The Marlins have blown leads like this before, so the price isn't the whole story, but it's a fair read on which roster looks more equipped to close out a getaway-day rubber match.

Both teams limped into this series banged up. Miami got run out of Atlanta, dropping all three there, before flipping the switch at home to split the first two of this set with LA. The Angels have lost 3 of their last 5 overall and were shut out 7-0 in the second game of this series — hardly the form you want to carry into a road decider.

The injury sheets tell a similar story on both sides — this is thin, bullpen-taxed baseball in August for two rosters that aren't going where they hoped this year. At 45-72, the Angels aren't playing for much beyond pride in a game like this. Miami's not exactly thriving either at 59-59, but a series win at loanDepot park is exactly the kind of thing a .500 club needs to bank.
