Roki Sasaki gets the ball for LA coming off the best outing of his Dodgers career — 5.1 innings, 3 hits, 1 earned, 7 punchouts, 1 walk against the Phillies on May 30, with his fastball touching 100 for the first time this year. The 4.59 ERA still looks ugly, but the underlying stuff is finally showing up. Reid Detmers (2-5, 4.63) is the reported counter for the Halos.

The Dodgers' rotation is a triage unit at this point — Snell, Glasnow, Stone, Miller and Knack are all on the shelf — so a healthy, throwing-100 Sasaki isn't a luxury, it's the plan. Max Muncy passed concussion testing but is out tonight with a sore nose, per Bob Nightengale, which is a sentence you don't write very often.

The Angels list is the bigger problem. Zach Neto's neck has him day-to-day, Nolan Schanuel is starting a rehab assignment at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, and Travis d'Arnaud, Yusei Kikuchi, Ben Joyce and Robert Stephenson are all parked on the 60-day IL. They did just drop 11 on the Rockies on Wednesday, so the bats aren't dead — they just have to do it against a Sasaki who actually looks like the guy Tokyo sent over.

LA's been chewing through the NL West and just took 3 of 4 from Arizona, even if they dropped the finale 3-2 on Thursday. The Angels won their last out on the road trip but lost the series to Colorado before that. On paper this is a get-right spot for the Dodgers; in practice the Freeway Series has a way of being weirder than the records suggest.
