Georgia's loss has a pattern that should worry its fans. The Bulldogs led Auburn 14-0, gave up 24 unanswered points, and tied it late. Then they committed their 3rd personal foul of the day on Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown in the final seconds, which put Alex McPherson in range for the walk-off field goal. The loss ended a 93-game winning streak for No. 1 AP teams at home against unranked opponents. A team that took apart Oklahoma and won at Alabama lost a game it led because it couldn't keep from hitting the quarterback late.
The season numbers tilt toward Georgia. Before Auburn, the Bulldogs had held 4 straight opponents to 17 points or fewer, and 3 of those wins were by 24 or more. Florida swings much harder from week to week. The Gators beat Ole Miss by 24 and won a 44-39 shootout at Auburn, then lost to Missouri by 28 and to South Carolina by 19 in back-to-back weeks. They've won road games at Auburn and Texas this season, and they've also lost 2 games by a combined 47 points. Florida's ceiling is high and so is its floor-to-ceiling gap.
Georgia has injury questions of its own at receiver. Isaiah Canion (leg) and T. Blackshear (upper body) are both questionable, and running back D. Dowdell has been out since early September. The game is indoors, so weather is out of the picture. The playing surface will be fast, and it's a whole lot closer to Athens than to Gainesville. Florida's pass rush against Georgia's protection, and Georgia's discipline against a Florida offense that will gladly take free yards, are the 2 things worth watching. The board hasn't posted a number yet, and with this much still up in the air, it makes sense that no one is in a hurry.
